Akhara in Kumbh Mela, Importance of Sadhu Akhara

First of all we should know about the meaning of Akhara. Generally Akhara means to the place of exercise and fight field and where wrestling participated by the wrestlers but In Kumbh Mela, Akhara means to the geathering of Sags and a group of Saint. Akhara is also reference to stay places of Sadhu ( Saints or Sags ) .

There are totally 13 Akhara and these are very important for Kumbh Mela and Ardh Kumbh Mela. Now a days one Akhada also added so now 14 Akhade by name are

Atal Akhada is one of the. Oldest Akhada and its God name is  Lord Ganesha.

Avahan Akhada whose centre is Kashi.

Niranjani Akhada is one of the educated Akhada in Kumbh Mela whose God know as Lord Kartik son of Lord Shiva.

Panchagri Akhada's God is Gayatri. Brahman and Bramchari only can ordination in it.

Mahanirman Akhara's God is Kapil Mahamauni.


Other Akhada names are :

Ananda Akhada, Nirmohi Akhada, Bada Udasin Panchayti Akhada, Nya Udasin Akhada, Nirmal Akhada, Veshnav Akhada, Nagpanti  Gorakhnath Akhara, Juna Akhara and Kinnar Akhara.

Kinnar Akhara has included in this year whose Mahamandaleshwar is Lakshmi Narayan Tirpathi.


Kumbh Mela is coming soon which will be held in Haridwar City in 2021.


Haridwar Kumbh Mela is held on the bank of The Holy Ganges. Har Ki Pauri is very important place where thousand of person can be seen every year dipping into Holy Ganges.
